Steven and Eamonn video transcript

This is the transcript for the video interview with Steven and Eamonn talking about how they have worked out what kind of retirement works best for them.

Steven: We met online, and actually we hooked up pretty quickly.

And I'd taken early retirement, when I moved across from Milton Keynes...to be with this man.

Eamonn: I still work three days a week for the moment.

Steven: So what we've done is prepare retirement by dropping little increments.

We have talked about retirement

Eamonn: Just recently, yeah, because I am gonna retire next year.

Steven: It is a vulnerable conversation talking about the future and the world outside of work.

Eamonn: I thought retirement was really for old people and I don't wanna feel like that. I just wanna carry on enjoying my life.

Steven: It doesn't have to end. If you've got some drive and ambition it can be the start of a new chapter.

Travel's a real connector for us.

Eamonn: We met late in life, so we wanna make memories.

Steven: So that's why we've got travel plans, we've got fun things...and sometimes things that don't cost any money.

We live 35 minutes from a beach. Nothing better than going to the cinema at one o'clock in the afternoon.

And there's only four people in there.

Eamonn: That's lovely.

Steven: It's great isn’t it?

Eamonn: I haven't picked up a paintbrush for, you know, years and years and years. I think I might, sort of, give it another go.

Steven: And I'll make things that I've seen on TikTok and Instagram.

Eamonn: Some of them are quite good.

Steven: Some of them are quite good.

It is a really nice life that we... you know, not a flash one, but one that we're making choices that, that suit us as a couple.

Eamonn: That's true yeah.
